The Tiruchi Railway Division has surpassed the six-million-tonne mark in freight loading this financial year.
The landmark has been achieved in a record span of just 149 days in 2025-26. On August 27, the Division recorded a cumulative loading of 6.024 million tonnes, registering 6.4% increase over the corresponding period of the previous financial year.
Coal continued to be a major contributor accounting for 4.727 million tonnes till August 27. Foodgrains have shown a strong performance with 6.27 lakh tonnes, reflecting a growth of 23% over the corresponding period of the previous financial year. Fertilizer loading has increased sharply, reaching 78,000 tonnes, a 200% rise when compared with last year, according to a press release from the Division.
In addition to these, the division has moved 2.96 lakh tonnes of iron ore, 1.59 lakh tonnes of cement, and 1.37 lakh tonnes of other goods, thereby expanding its freight basket.
