Petitions received from the public under the ‘Ungaludan Stalin,’ programme were found floating on Vaigai river at Thirupuvanam in Sivaganga district on Friday (August 29, 2025).
The ‘Ungaludan Stalin’ camps which are being held across Tamil Nadu focuses on resolving issues pertaining to 13 departments, including patta transfers, name corrections in electricity cards, ration cards, among others. Similarly, in rural areas, petitions are being received for 46 services through 15 departments.
In Sivaganga district, thousands of people submitted petitions at camps held in the Thirupuvanam town panchayat and in rural areas like Poovanthi, Keeladi, Konthagai, Nelmudikkarai and Madapuram.
As Chief Minister M.K. Stalin had announced that these petitions would be resolved within a maximum of 45 days, many people, hoping they would get quick solutions, were submitting petitions at the camps.
However, the public were shocked when petitions submitted through the camps were found floating in the river.
Sources said that most of the petitions found in the river were for patta transfers and computer name corrections. They were original copies with the signatures of officials, including the Village Administrative Officer and Revenue Inspector.
Sivaganga Collector’s reply
Responding to the incident, Sivaganga District Collector K. Porkodi stated that police action would be taken against those involved in the incident.
Through a press statement, she added that, “It was found that the petitions were photo copies of six patta transfer applications received at the ‘Ungaludan Stalin’ camp. These petitions have already been resolved. There were also seven copies of petitions received through Tahsildar’s office.”
“An inquiry is underway with the officials and staff who worked at the Thirupuvanam tahsildar’s office for the last two days. The Sub-Collector has also lodged a complaint with the Superintendent of Police. Appropriate legal action will be taken against those involved in such anti-social activities that bring disrepute to the government,” she added.
