Vinayagar idols from various parts of the district were taken out in a procession and were immersed in a local waterbody and in the sea here on Friday.

On the day of Vinayagar Chaturthi, more than 45 idols were installed in Ramanathapuram town and surrounding areas, including Pattanamkathan, Sakkarakkottai, and Achundanvayal panchayats. 

The Vinayagar idol procession which started from the Vazhividu Murugan Temple went through Vandikara Street, Aranamanai, Sannathi Street, and Agraharam Road for 3 km up to the municipal area of Nochi Uraṇi. 

Along the way, a large number of people performed pujas and offered prayers to the idols. All the idols were immersed in Nochi Uraṇi. 

Similarly, idols installed at Kadaladi and Sayalgudi were immersed in the Mariyur beach near Sayalgudi, while idols from Devipattinam were immersed in the Devipattinam beach. 

More than 500 police officers, led by District Superintendent of Police G. Chandeesh, were deployed for security.
