A powerful explosion in a rented house at Keezhara, in Kannur district’s Kannapuram, killed one person and injured another around 2 a.m. on Saturday (August 30, 2025). Police suspect the blast occurred while making a bomb.
The deceased, yet to be identified, was blown apart in the impact, with body parts scattered at the site. Another person was rushed to hospital with injuries.
The explosion damaged nearby houses, breaking doors and leaving cracks on walls.
Kannapuram Police, Fire and Rescue Service personnel and the bomb squad rushed to the scene after locals reported the incident. Unexploded explosives were also retrieved from the site.
The house owned by Keezhara Govindan had been rented to two men who reportedly ran a parts shop in Payyanur.
The Kannur City Police Commissioner P. Nidhinraj also visited the site.
