Sundeep Gulati of Delhi and Vidya Pillai of Chennai emerged the champions in the inaugural National heyball championships at the National Sports Club of India (NSCI) here.
Sundeep defeated Kamal Chawla of Railways 7-6 in the men’s final while Vidya recovered from being down 1-3 to beat Amee Kamani of Madhya Pradesh 8-6 in the women’s title clash.
“This title means a lot for me as only the winner gets to compete in the Champion of Champions event in Australia next month,” said Vidya, who had recently won the Commonwealth billiards title.
The results: Men: Final: Sundeep Gulati bt Kamal Chawla 7-6; Semifinals: Sundeep bt Hanish Sharma 9-3; Kamal bt Harish Kumar 9-3.
Women: Final: Vidya Pillai bt Amee Kamani 8-6; Semifinals: Vidya bt Anupama Ramachandran 7-5; Amee bt Neena Praveen 8-6.
