With the city getting ready for the annual Ganesh immersion, Hyderabad Police Commissioner C.V. Anand held a review meeting with South Zone police at Purani Haveli on Saturday, to chalk out security measures and other arrangements.

The meeting discussed strategies to ensure safe and smooth conduct of immersions and addressed law and order concerns arising from the overlap with Milad-un-Nabi, though the procession has been shifted to September 14.

Mr. Anand noted that shortcomings had been observed during previous years’ immersions and directed officials to take adequate precautions to prevent any recurrence. He emphasised the need for a detailed action plan to facilitate the speedy transportation of Ganesh idols to immersion points, minimise congestion on roads, and maintain public order.

Instructions were issued to all departments to coordinate effectively, particularly traffic and law and order units, to handle the large crowds and processions expected in South Zone. The commissioner also underscored the importance of proactive policing in sensitive areas, ensuring that security personnel remain vigilant all the time.

DCP (South Zone) Sneha Mehra, DCP (Special Branch) K. Apoorva Rao, DCP (Traffic) R. Venkateshwarlu, Task Force officers and officials from all South Zone police stations, attended the meeting.

Police said that elaborate arrangements, including traffic diversions and deployment numbers, will be announced in the next few days.
