Five members of a gang stealing two-wheelers were arrested by the Jagadgirigutta police on Saturday (August 30). The officials seized 22 stolen motorcycles, including high-end models, all valued at nearly ₹42 lakh.
The arrested individuals include Gollapally Sridhar, 26, an electrician from Jagtial district; Midde Veera Kousik Goud, 21, Katta Manikanta, 20, Guthula Srinivas, 28, all AC technicians residing in Allwyn Colony, Kukatpally and Shaik Nagur Vali, 25, a businessman.
The investigation was initiated after a motorcycle, belonging to a software professional, was stolen outside a wine shop in Jagadgirigutta on August 24. Following the complaint, a case was registered, and a special crime team was tasked with tracing the culprits.
During vehicle checks this week, police intercepted a suspect, Sridhar, who was found riding a bike without a number plate. His suspicious behaviour led to his detention. On questioning, Sridhar confessed not only to the theft of that bike but also admitted to being part of a larger gang involved in a series of vehicle thefts across Hyderabad.
Investigation revealed that Sridhar operated with three associates — Kousik Goud, Manikanta and Srinivas. The gang would target parked motorcycles in areas under the jurisdiction of KPHB, Borabanda, Allapur and Jagadgirigutta police stations.
Several of the stolen motorcycles had been sold to Vali, the receiver from Guntur district, who ran a small business. Police believe Vali was aware of the illicit nature of the transactions and helped the gang dispose off stolen property.
The police have linked the gang to multiple theft cases in police stations, including KPHB, Allapur, Borabanda and Jagadgirigutta. All five accused have been remanded to judicial custody and further investigation is under way.
