Tourism and Public Works Minister P.A. Mohamed Riyas has inaugurated the construction of the Pullu Kole Padavu Tourism Centre project in Chazhoor grama panchayat.
The Minister on Saturday (August 30, 2025) said that the project is a model example of the Destination Challenge initiative of the Tourism department. “Pullu is a uniquely beautiful area, haven for migratory birds, fish resources, and natural charm. The project worth ₹82.66 lakh will be implemented in a manner that complements the local ecosystem,” he said.
The Minister added that basic facilities, including lighting and seating arrangements, would be developed as part of the project. He assured that the Tourism department would extend full support to complete the works on time. “Since this government came to power, several local tourism projects have been launched. Destination Challenge has helped identify and upgrade many such centres, and more regions will be taken up for development,” he noted.
The project is jointly funded by the Tourism department (₹49.59 lakh) and Chazhoor grama panchayat’s 2024–25 plan allocation (₹33.06 lakh). MLA C.C. Mukundan presided over the function, while District Collector Arjun Pandian attended as the chief guest.
Pointing out that heavy rain often causes waterlogging and traffic disruptions in the Pullu area, Mr. Pandian directed the Public Works department to conduct a study and prepare a proposal for road elevation.
