Residents of Vellimalaipattinam staged a road-blockade protest at Narasipuram on the city outskirts demanding protection from a wild elephant that had entered into their locality and caused havoc.

The elephant had knocked down an aged resident Badragiri, causing fracture on both legs, and pushed down two-wheelers on the roadsides, before ransacking an agricultural field.

Following the public protest, Forest Department chased the elephant out of the village and a team of personnel is monitoring its movements.
