
The number of business days are to be decided on Sunday, the House may reconvene for four to five days after taking a break for the Ganesh immersion and floods, Legislative Affairs Minister Sridhar Babu said.
The Telangana Assembly is set to discuss the PC Ghose Commission’s report on irregularities in the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP) on Sunday (August 31).
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is likely to place the report for the Assembly’s approval. Minister for Irrigation Uttam Kumar Reddy held a meeting with the party MLAs on Saturday (August 30) evening to discuss the strategies to be adopted during the debate on the commission’s report.
Speaking to the media after attending the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting held under the chairmanship of Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar in the Assembly on Saturday, Legislative Affairs Minister D. Sridhar Babu revealed that the report will be tabled in the House and discussed, followed by a discussion on a fresh Bill aimed at the removal of 50% cap on reservations, thus facilitating 42% quota for Backward Classes (BCs) in the impending local body polls.
He also added that Speaker would take a call on the BRS’s request to allow them to make a presentation on Kaleshwaram project to put forth their argument.
Stating that they would finalise the number of business days on Sunday, Sridhar Babu said that the House may reconvene for four to five days after taking a break for the Ganesh immersion and floods.
Meanwhile, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLAs walked out of the BAC meeting in protest against the government’s reported decision to hold the Assembly session for only for two days.
BRS MLA T. Harish Rao, said that the BRS party had requested that the Assembly sessions be held for 15 days to discuss various issues affecting the people of Telangana, including the loss of life and crop damage caused by floods, shortage of urea, toxic fever, deaths of Gurukul children, and fee reimbursement for SC, ST, BC, and minority students.
Harish Rao alleged that the Congress government is trying to adjourn the House and flee without discussing public issues, and that the government’s priority is to benefit from the local body elections rather than addressing the people’s problems.
AIMIM Floor Leader Akbaruddin Owaisi has written to the Speaker requesting that the Monsoon Session be held for 15 days to discuss various pressing issues. These issues include the rains, flood situation, implementation of welfare schemes, developmental activities in the Old City, and the law and order situation.
Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, and BJPLP leader Alleti Maheswar Reddy were among those who attended the BAC meeting.
