State-level Environment Impact Assessment Authority, three zonal Expert Appraisal Committees constituted

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has issued a notification constituting the State-level Environment Impact Assessment Authority, Kerala, and three zonal State-level Expert Appraisal Committees.

The Authority will be chaired by former IAS officer P.H. Kurian, with Raveendran Thekkeparambil as a member. The Secretary, Department of Environment, Kerala, will serve as the Member Secretary.

The Authority will take decision on the recommendations of the State-level Expert Appraisal Committees, an August 28, gazette notification by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, said.

State-level Expert Appraisal Committees also have been constituted for the purpose of assisting the Authority. State-level Expert Appraisal Committee-1 (South Zone), which has six members, is chaired by former IFS officer Anirud Kumar Dharani. It will have jurisdiction over Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam and Ernakulam districts.

State-level Expert Appraisal Committee-2 (Central Zone) is chaired by Shibu Krishnan, Associate Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, College of Engineering Thiruvananthapuram. It will have jurisdiction over Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram districts.

State-level Expert Appraisal Committee-3 (North Zone) is headed by former IFS officer Anil Kumar Bharadwaj. It will cover Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts.

The Chairman and Members of the Authority and the committees will hold office for a period of three years.
