At least 14 houses were gutted in a fire incident in Gurez’s Tulail area close to the Line of Control in Bandipora district on Saturday (August 30, 2025).
A government spokesman said 14 houses and seven cow sheds were damaged in the incident. “Other houses sustained partial damage. A detailed inquiry is currently underway, and cases were processed on priority today itself to ensure timely assistance,” the spokesman said.
A Red Cross relief cheque of ₹1 lakh has been issued among the victims. “Two vehicles carrying SDRF relief material have been dispatched to Tulail for the affected families,” the spokesman said.
Several locals were injured while salvaging house items and rescuing trapped civilians to safer locations.
The Assistant Commissioner Revenue (ACR), Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Gurez, and the concerned Tehsildar have been stationed on the spot “to supervise the relief and rehabilitation efforts”, the spokesman said.
