Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin launched flood control measures across the city on Saturday, including desilting, widening and construction of concrete-walled covered drains, installation of chain-link fencing, and removal of plastic waste and floating debris, according to a press release.

Works worth ₹65 crore were initiated at the Otteri Nullah in the Thiru. Vi. Ka. Nagar Zone. Similar works, totalling ₹78.87 crore, began at the Railway Ainsley Canal in the same zone, Captain Cotton Canal in Vyasarpadi, and Kodungaiyur canal.

The Water Resources Department has taken up desilting works at a cost of ₹32.90 crore. They include clearing silt from the Ennore-stream bridge, desilting and cleaning of the Kosasthalaiyar River, work on the Buckingham Canal near Ennore tunnel (₹4.50 crore), and desilting of Puzhal surplus canal near Amullavoyal bridge (₹40 lakh).

Ministers K.N. Nehru and P.K Sekarbabu, Mayor R. Priya, and senior officials were present.
