Several first-time runners in the 5K run of the NMPA Golden Jubilee 10K run, organised by New Mangalore Port Authority to mark its Golden Jubilee celebrations on Sunday.

Over 3,700 runners, including schoolchildren and staff of the New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA), took part in the NMPA Golden Jubilee 10K run in the city on Sunday.
The run was held under four categories. Apart from 10K and 5K timed runs, there were non-timed 5K and 3K runs. The starting point for all the four runs was the Panambur beach.
The 10K runners had to run along Panambur beach road to the reach the service road of the National Highway 66. Taking right, the runners had to cross the main gate of the port and run about 2 km on Tannirbhavi beach road, before returning on the same route. Meanwhile, the 5K runners had to take a u-turn at the main gate.
The main 10K run was flagged off at 6.15 a.m. by NMPA Chairman A.V. Ramana and Mangaluru Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy, who also took part in the 10K run.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Ramana said the port has handled 48 tonnes of cargo and earned a profit of ₹450 crore during 2024-25. It was working towards adding more revenue from its operations. The Golden Jubilee 10K run was the first of a series of Golden Jubilee celebration programmes lined up in September, he said.
A.K. Akshay was the first to complete the 10K run in 37.28 minutes. He was followed by N. Sudeep Kumar (38.22 minutes) and K.G. Lokesha (40.29 minutes). Among women, M. Shreya stood first with 43.04 minutes, followed by Mehwish Hussain (48.33 minutes), and Krithi Ullal (51.47 minutes).
The 5K-timed run was flagged off at 7 a.m. Gautham stood first, covering the distance in 15.30 minutes, followed by Naufal (18.02 minutes), and Basavaraj Chigari (18.05 minutes). Among women, Rishma finished first in 22.42 minutes, followed by Komal (24.13 minutes) and A.P. Lithika (25.39 minutes).
The Untimed 5K and 3K runs were flagged off soon after. Some runners faced problem with fewer number of hydrating stations along the route.
