Lavanyam 2025, the Onam celebrations organised by the district administration and the District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC), is set to kickstart on Tuesday (September 2). Industries Minister P. Rajeeve will inaugurate the celebrations at 5 p.m. at Ernakulam Durbar Hall open auditorium. Tourism Minister P.A. Mohamed Riyas will address the event. Mayor M. Anilkumar and Hibi Eden, MP, will be the chief guests.
The inaugural event will be followed by a pancharimelam and sopana sangeetham by the percussion artistes of Ernakulam Siva temple. A folk concert by singer Athul Narukara will also be held.
As part of the event, art performances will be staged in different parts of the district, including Kalamassery, Fort Kochi, Veli Ground, Kumbalangi, Vasco D’Gama Square, Areekkal waterfalls, Vazhakulam, Cherai beach, Panampilly Nagar, Thevara, Vyloppilly Park, Bhoothathankettu and Piravom.
The performances scheduled as part of the event include classical dance, sufi music, kathaprasangam, ghazal and chakyarkoothu. Traditional art performances from Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Assam, Maharashtra, and Karnataka will be staged at Cherai beach. Kalidasa Kalakendra, Kollam, will perform a play at Kumbalangi on September 9. Entry to all performances will be free.
