An AI-powered farming companion app, developed by a team of final year B.Tech students of Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science (HITS), has won the makers the first prize at Infosys Global Hackathon – Tech for Good 2025 held recently in Hyderabad.
The app offers smart crop recommendations, plant disease diagnosis through AI, satellite-based agricultural insights, and voice-enabled access in regional languages. Developed by Jyoti Prakash Behera, Madhan S., Manish M., Samyuktha S., and Deepika Samad, all students of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science at HITS, the app is designed to benefit both rural and urban farmers by improving productivity, reducing wastage, and encouraging sustainable farming practices, a press release said. It is also aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goal 2 – Zero Hunger.
After clearing multiple regional rounds, the team competed against 33 teams from across India in the grand finale. The first prize also had a cash award of ₹5 lakh. Ashok George Verghese, Pro-Chancellor, HITS, congratulated the winners.
