The Forest Department is looking forward to drawing in more tourists in Tiruppur district by popularising trekking between Chinnaru checkpost and Kottar.
The only trekking route in the forests of Tiruppur district to a stretch of five kilometres was inaugurated during April, alongside the start of 10 trekking routes in the Nilgiris, and seven in Coimbatore district.
The trekking trail in the riverine forest at an elevation above 400 metres above sea level is meant for tourists interested in birdwatching, butterfly-watching and spotting grizzled giant squirrel.
A discussion on promoting the trekking route was convened recently by Tiruppur Collector Manish S. Narnaware with the participation of District Forest Officer Rajesh and District Tourism Officer Aravind Kumar.
The Forest Department inaugurated the trekking routes to create an understanding of nature and to generate awareness among the common public interested in exploring nature.
The discussion held under the auspices of Tiruppur District Tourism Development Committee also dwelt on renovating Amaravati Dam Park and developing the Amaravati Crocodile Farm Tourism Project; establishing a new park at Thirumoorthy Dam; reviving the defunct boat house at Thirumurthy Dam; launching a new district museum; setting up a tourist information centre; and maintaining cleanliness across all tourist sites.
