The Kolli Sarada wholesale vegetable market in Guntur is operating as usual, the Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) officials have clarified.

Commissioner Puli Srinivasulu told The Hindu on Tuesday (Septemberr 02) that 20 traders who secured shops through the recent public auction have already occupied their premises and started business. He cautioned farmers not to fall prey to misleading claims, reiterating that apart from the municipal market near the bus stand, no other wholesale markets have been authorized within the city. He reacted to a misleading information being spread by persons who failed to secure shops at the market during the course of auction held last month.

The GMC came to know that the businessmen who have vested interest in the market, along with some of those who held the market for several years before the auction, have started spreading misinformation that the market will be shifted.

The Commissioner added that from Tuesday, the remaining allottees of shops in the Kolli Sarada market would pay the prescribed auction fee and begin operations. He also warned that strict legal action would be taken against those spreading false propaganda about shifting the Kolli Sarada market.

GMC Officers also confirmed that trading activities at the market were continuing without disruption.
