The IT Corridor will soon get 275 electric public buses, likely by October this year.

The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) officials met heads of information technology, and information technology enabled service companies in their efforts to encourage greater adoption of buses, a move that has been pitched as a solution to ameliorate the worsening traffic situation in this part of Hyderabad.

The meeting was a result of State transport undertaking’s Vice Chairman and Managing Director V C Sajjanar, earlier this month, reaching out to companies for discussion on the subject.

The TGSRTC along with Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India, and Telangana Facility Management Council, jointly organised a meeting with representatives of software companies on providing better transport facilities in the IT corridor.

Speaking on the issue on Tuesday, Mr Sajjanar said that the IT Corridor already has around 200 buses plying the roads. He added that buses will be made available to these companies on hire basis. He also suggested that IT workers be incentivised for taking buses. Delegates at the meeting discussed how public transport could be improved in the IT Corridor.

As on Tuesday, as many as 450 buses have been pressed into service in the IT Corridor, of which 200 are electric buses. An augmentation, if it goes through, will increase the number of electric buses in the area to 475.
