Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts have set up control rooms to handle any eventuality in view of foreccast of heavy rains given by the Indian Meteorological Department. Vizianagaram Collector B. R. Ambedkar directed all the officials to monitor the flood like situation and constantly take alerts from the control room (08922-236947) for minimizing the damage to public and private properties. On Tuesday (September 02) morning, he directed the mandal level officials to set up local control rooms for taking swift action.
According to him, Pusapatirega and Bhogapuram mandals which are closed to sea coast might be affected due to rough weather on the sea.
Srikakulam Collector Swapnil Dinakar Pundkar on Tuesday morning held a conference call with all mandal level officials to know the situation in their respective areas. With his directive, the local officials have been visiting low lying areas to create awareness among the people about the heavy rain’ forecast.
Vamsadhara and Nagavali rivers are expected to receive more inflows from their catchment areas.
Mr. Pundkar directed Agriculture department to give necessary suggestions to coconut farmers of Uddanam region. “We directed fishermen not to venture into the sea since moderate to heavy rains are likely on September 3 and 4. The Fisheries department officials were suggested to give wide publicity about the heavy rain forecast for the people living in sea coast area,” he added.
