Pension distribution in Thettu gram panchayat of Kurabalakota mandal in Annamayya district was completed without any further disruptions after officials cracked down on irregularities and suspended a panchayat staffer accused of diverting funds.
Mandal Parishad Development Officer Mr. Gangayya appealed to the beneficiaries not to worry as their pensions would be disbursed as per schedule, and already 90 per cent of the target had been reached by Tuesday morning (September 02, 2025). The officials said that except for the singular incident the pensions distribution was completed all over the district smoothly.
It may be mentioned here that one Venkatesh posted as energy secretary at the Panchayat Secretariat was suspended after he reportedly misappropriated a portion of the pension amount. A special team was formed to track down the accused officer, who is absconding. Following a delay in the distribution of pensions to the beneficiaries on Monday (September 01, 2025), a complaint was lodged with the Kurabalakota police, who recovered part of the embezzled cash.
The episode led to a flutter among villagers, particularly the beneficiaries of the social pensions of various categories. District Collector Sridhar Chamakuri reiterated that strict action would be taken against the errant officer. He said that all precautions were being taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
