Excise Minister R.B. Thimmapur on Tuesday said disciplinary action has been initiated against 94 senior officials of the department for “negligence and dereliction of duty.”
Action has been initiated against officials, including 43 Excise sub-inspectors, the Minister said. He said steps have been taken to prevent corruption while issuing CL-7 licences.
Exceeds target
The department earned ₹16,358 crore against the targeted revenue of ₹16,290 crore, an increase of ₹68.78 crore, as on August 31 in the current excise year.
The Minister reviewed the progress of the department and said transfers have been made through counselling in an attempt to bring down corruption.
A digital system was being implemented in the department, and permission had been given to renew the licence online once every five years.
On the implementation of recommendations given by the Administrative Reforms Commission, he said of the total of 62 recommendations, 13 have already been implemented and 49 are in the process of implementation.
To Goa, Maharashtra
Department officials have been instructed to keep a close eye on the illegal transportation of liquor from Maharashtra and Goa, and the Commissioner has been instructed to change the staff at the border checkposts every 15 days.
Excise Department officials have been instructed to take adequate action to control chlorine (CH) powder and drugs. Those who bring CH powder in small packets and make hundreds of liters of liquor should be identified and strict action should be taken. The Minister suggested that the NDPS Act should be implemented adequately and effectively.
