An Army vehicle was intercepted by Kolkata Police allegedly for reckless driving on Tuesday (September 2, 2025) morning. According to reports, a military truck was driving near Writers Building when it took a sharp turn coming close to the vehicle of Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Kumar Verma.

The incident occurred at about 11 a.m. on Tuesday (September 2, 2025) and the military truck was stopped by Kolkata Police near Writers Building. Officers from the Hare Street Police Station came and tried to escort the vehicle to the local police station.

The Hare Street police station personnel said the Army truck was being driven “recklessly”, had jumped a signal and also ignored a “no-right turn” notice, after which it was stopped by on-duty traffic policemen. CCTV footage of the incident revealed that the truck came close to the vehicle of Commissioner of Police. The personnel of the Army in the vehicle denied any reports of reckless driving and said that they were not aware of the Commissioner’s vehicle in the vicinity.

The Army vehicle had two personnel, who travelled a few metres at the insistence of Kolkata Police but halted in the Dacres Lane. They refused to move from Dacres Lane. Senior officials of the Army came to the spot and held discussion with the Kolkata Police authorities. After that the Army Truck returned to Fort William, the headquarters of Eastern Command.

On Monday (September 1, 2025), a controversy erupted after the Army personnel dismantled a set up by the Trinamool Congress (TMC) next to the Gandhi statue at Mayo Road in Kolkata .The Chief Minister accused the BJP of using the Indian Army to dismantle the TMC’s stage. Reminders had been sent to the organisers for removal of the temporary structure, which was, however, not removed, a statement by the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said on Monday (September 1, 2025).
