A public interest litigation has been filed in the Kerala High Court alleging corruption in the import of raw cashew nut by Kerala Cashew Board Ltd. (KCB). The petitioner sought a directive to the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) to conduct a probe into the supply of allegedly inferior quality cashew.
A Bench of Justice Devan Ramachandran and Justice Syam Kumar V.M. recorded the submission made by the petitioner Vishnu Sunil of Kollam that there was urgency in the matter, considering the likelihood that the cashew nut and kernels in question might be removed by the Kerala State Cashew Development Corporation Ltd (KSCDC).
He said a complaint he submitted before the VACB was not considered, following which he approached the court.
The Senior Government pleader and the standing counsel for the KSCDC sought time to obtain instructions.
