42 students to get 51 gold medals at Sri Krishnadevaraya University convocation

The 13th annual convocation of Vijayanagara Sri Krishnadevaraya University is scheduled for Thursday at 11 a.m. at the open-air theatre on campus.

Three eminent achievers from diverse fields, Vasundhara Bhupathi, Bavihalli Naganagouda and Irfan Razack, will be conferred honorary doctorate on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor of the university M. Muniraju announced on Wednesday.

Addressing presspersons at the university’s examination building on the outskirts of Ballari, Prof. Muniraju said that Governor and Chancellor Thaawarchand Gehlot will preside over the convocation.

Director, Inter-University Accelerator Centre, New Delhi, Avinash Chandra Pandey will deliver the convocation address. Minister for Higher Education and Pro-Chancellor M.C. Sudhakar will be present.

The convocation will be attended by Syndicate and Academic Council members, Registrar C. Nagaraju, Registrar (Evaluation) N.M. Sali, deans, heads of departments, principals of affiliated colleges, teaching and non-teaching staff and students.

Medals

During the convocation, 42 undergraduate and postgraduate students will receive 51 gold medals, while 59 research scholars will be awarded doctoral degrees. A total of 155 students, 80 from undergraduate courses and 75 from postgraduate programmes, will receive rank certificates.

Among the medal winners, commerce student Hamsa N. has bagged four gold medals, while student of Industrial Chemistry Rajeshwari will receive three gold medals. As many as five students, Manoj (Physics), Suhana Tasleem (Chemistry), Shilpa (Social Work, Nandihalli PG Centre), Vishnupriya (B.Com, BBC College) and Mohammed Naqeeb Ali (B.Sc, Veerashaiva College), will receive two medals each.

Prof. Muniraju said that in the 2023-24 academic year, 19,179 students completed undergraduate degrees, while 1,845 students successfully cleared postgraduate examinations.

Honorary doctorate

This year, the university will confer honorary doctorate on medical practitioner, writer and social worker Vasundhara Bhupathi, educationist and industrialist Bavihalli Naganagouda and real estate entrepreneur and philanthropist Irfan Razack.

Dr. Bhoopati, born in Raichur, has combined her work as a medical professional with prolific contribution to literature, social service and women’s empowerment. She has authored more than 65 books on health awareness, many of which have been translated into English and Hindi. She has received multiple awards for her contribution.

Mr. Naganagouda, a prominent industrialist from the mining region, has contributed to education, healthcare and cultural activities through the BKG Foundation, in addition to supporting temple renovation and community welfare projects. He has been honoured with the Kannada Shri and Sevaratna awards.

Mr. Razack, based in Bengaluru, is the founder-chairman of the Prestige Group and has been recognised nationally and internationally for his contribution to business, philanthropy, education, health and environment protection. He has received the Rajyotsava Award and several national and international honours.
