More than 100 farmers and CPI (M) functionaries, led by Dindigul MP R. Sachithanantham on Wednesday staged a protest in front of Dindigul Collectorate demanding better compensation for lands being acquired for a road project in the district.
As part of the project connecting Tiruchi, Natham and Madurai Highway, lands were being acquired from Mullipadi to Adiyanuthu in Dindigul district. The farmers said land was being acquired for the stretch of about 19.5 km. Without adequate compensation for the lands acquired for the project, the work for the project was going on, they said.
They said earlier the authorities had promised them appropriate compensation. However, the authorities have reneged, they said. The farmers demanded that appropriate compensation be paid to the farmers for the lands being acquired for the project.Â
