The government has ordered an investigation into a group of students singing the devotional song of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) during Independence Day celebrations at Kunjimon Haji Memorial Higher Secondary School at Alathiyur near Tirur in the district.

The school authorities said action would be taken against those responsible for the incident. Headmistress Bindu said it was an oversight by teachers and students.

A group of students from the school’s Gandhi Darshan Club sang the RSS devotional song during Independence Day celebrations, seemingly unaware of its meaning or origin.

None noticed the incident until the song appeared on some RSS websites. Organisations like the DYFI and the SFI staged protests demanding action against those responsible for the incident.

Meanwhile, the School authorities removed the teacher in charge of the Gandhi Darshan Club from the post and assured further action after the school reopens on Monday.

Education Minister V. Sivankutty has ordered an investigation by the Deputy Director of Education into the incident.

The school authorities claimed that students learned the song from social media and sang it, unaware that it was associated with the RSS. The teachers, too, were reportedly unaware of the song’s connection.
