Three boys, including two brothers, drowned in a pond at Thalikkal village near Sholinghur town in Ranipet while they went to play after school hours.
Police said the deceased have been identified as V. Amudhan, 9, V. Sugan, 6, and their neighbour, S. Elanchezhiyan, 10. Farming couple K. Vijayakanth and V. Nagajothi are parents of the siblings, while Elanchezhiyan is the son of B. Selvaraj and S. Hema.
Initial inquiry revealed that the boys had been studying in a government-aided school in the village for the past few years. While returning home after school, the trio went to a nearby lake. As they were playing on the bund of the waterbody, they accidently slipped into the pond.Â
As the boys did not return home after a long time, parents went in search of their children but were unable to find them anywhere. Along with neighbours, they searched for boys and found their school uniforms and cycles near the bund of the waterbody.
Based on alert, Kondapalayam police and fire fighters reached the spot and retrieved the bodies. A case was registered and further probe is under way.
