The Vitla police have arrested D. Ashraf, 33, for allegedly attempting to assault a woman in Vitla on Wednesday evening.
The police said the victim was returning home in a scooter. As she was nearing her house, Ashraf waylaid her and spoke to her in a rude way. He then attempted to hit her with a sharp weapon. The victim ducked and the sharp weapon hit her fingers.
As she raised alarm, Ashraf threatened her and left the place. She got admitted to a nearby hospital and then filed a complaint. The police arrested Ashraf for offences punishable under Sections 74, 109, 118(1), and 351(2) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
He was produced before the jurisdictional court, which remanded Ashraf to 14 days in judicial custody, the police said.
