Propelled by the spirit of volunteering, members of transgender community offered their services in traffic regulation duties during the Ganesh idols immersion procession in Jagtial town on Friday evening.
In a progressive initiative, the Jagtial police involved transgender persons in traffic regulation duties as part of the elaborate bandobust arrangements for Ganesh shoba yatra and idols immersion fete in the district headquarters town. It is a unique initiative to promote inclusive policing, gender equality and community participation in maintaining law and order, police said.
In a statement, Jagtial Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar said, “The inclusion of transgender persons in bandobust duties not only strengthens our manpower during large-scale events like Ganesh idols immersion fete but also sends a strong message of equality, dignity and respect for all sections of society.”
