The police have registered a case against 30 activists of the Girls Islamic Organisation for conducting a pro-Palestine demonstration and public meeting without permission in Madayipara, a biological ecological zone, in Kannur, Kerala.

The case was filed on the basis of a complaint that the group led by Afra Shihab entered the Devaswom land at Madayipara carrying flags and banners allegedly causing damage to biodiversity around 6 p.m. on Friday. Public gatherings are strictly prohibited in the sensitive area.

Pazhayangadi police have also enforced a ban on vehicle entry to the region but violations were reported during the Onam holidays with several vehicles reaching the site despite restrictions.

The police launched an investigation after visuals of the demonstration circulated widely on social media.
