Chennai Mayor flags off improvement work on 22 waterbodies

Chennai Mayor R. Priya, on Saturday inaugurated improvement work involving desilting and increasing the capacity of 22 water bodies across Sholinganallur, Perungudi, and Ambattur zones, to be executed under Corporate Social Responsibility funds from Environmentalist Foundation of India.

The project includes removing water hyacinth, creating bird islands, planting trees, installing solar-powered fountains, footpaths, lighting, and fencing around the tanks, according to a press release. She also inspected ongoing development work at Raman Thangal Eri and Thangal Eri tanks.

The Mayor also reviewed the ₹162.92-crore flyover construction across South Usman Road and CIT Nagar Main Road in Kodambakkam Zone.
