Kodungaiyur police have arrested a 21-year-old youth for allegedly stabbing a 20-year-old girl.
Police sources said the girl, who is a resident of Erukkanchery, has been studying in a nursing college. She was in love with Yuvaraj who was introduced to her by a friend. Later, she distanced herself from him. Even as she avoided talking to him, he followed her and continued to harass her.
On Thursday evening, while she was walking with her aunt near the Amma canteen in Kodungaiyur, he stopped her and pulled her plait. He then whipped out a knife and stabbed her. He fled the scene and the injured girl was admitted at Government Stanley Hospital. Based on her complaint, police registered a case under the provisions of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and TN Prohibition of Harassment of Woman Act.
On investigation, police arrested the youth Yuvaraj, 21, of Palavakkam who was working as an AC mechanic and seized a knife from him. Later, he was remanded to judicial custody.
