A 24-year-old man involved in the illegal sale of painkiller tablets was arrested by Viruthampattu police in Shenbakkam that comes under Vellore Corporation limits on Saturday.
Police said the arrested person was identified as B. Vishwa (24), a resident of Viruthampattu village near Vellore town. Initial inquiry revealed that based on orders of Superintendent of Police (SP) A. Myilvaganan, special police teams were patrolling the stretch when they intercepted the suspect Vishwa near a government school.
Police checked him and found 200 tablets used as pain killers and 50 syringes. Investigations revealed the suspect Vishwa was selling the tablets for youth and students in the area. Police seized the tablets, syringes and a two-wheeler from him.
A case was registered under Section 123 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 8(c) read with 20(b)(ii)(A) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Later, he was arrested and lodged in Central Prison in Vellore.
