All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) would be holding a demonstration in Kalaburagi city on September 15, demanding that the State government conduct crop survey accurately to assess the crop loss due to heavy rains and to release the insurance claims for eligible farmers who suffered agricultural and horticultural loss across the district.
AIKS State working president Maula Mulla and district president Bheemashankar Madiyal, addressing press persons here on Friday, said that continuous rains in the August months led to flooding in the agriculture fields damaging both agriculture and horticulture crops in large areas.
They criticised the way that officials carried out crop surveys to assess the extent of damage and claimed that officials were conducting crop surveys on mere estimates by visiting only taluk headquarters and not visiting villages to assess actual on-ground survey, Mr Mulla alleged.
They demanded that the government fix the Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) for sugarcane at ₹5,000 per tonne at a recovery rate of 8.5%, and urged sugar factories to share 50% of their profit from byproducts with the sugarcane growers.
