Tension prevailed at Paritala village in the NTR Commissionerate limits when a devotee was injured in stone pelting during the Ganesh Immersion procession on Saturday.

The organisers of the Ganesh Utsava Committee, however, said four devotees suffered injuries in the incident. The Kanchikacharla police registered a case.

Trouble broke out when a group of people objected to the DJ and loud speakers when the procession reached a shrine. Suddenly, some miscreants pelted stones on the devotees. The organisers squatted on the Vijayawada-Hyderabad National Highway and demanded the arrest of the accused.

Deputy Commissioner of Police K.M. Nageswara Raju and other police officers rushed to the spot. They were trying to pacify the protesters till reports last came in.

The devotees raised slogans demanding action against those who pelted stones.

“Additional forces have been deployed at Paritala in Kanchikacharla mandal. The situation is under control,” Police Commissioner S.V. Rajasekhar Babu said.
