The family members of Colonel John Pennycuick, the architect of the Mullaiperiyar dam during the colonial period, met Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin in London during his official visit to the United Kingdom and expressed their gratitude.

They thanked Mr. Stalin for the Tamil Nadu government’s gesture of donating a bust of Colonel Pennycuick in the town of Camberley, U.K.

In a social media post, the Chief Minister said that Pennycuick’s family met him and conveyed their appreciation. “We would consider the demands they made in person and would fulfil them,” Mr. Stalin said.

Pennycuick, a British engineer, is remembered in Tamil Nadu for his role in the construction of the Mullaiperiyar dam, which brought water and prosperity to the region.
