The Ernakulam Rural police have arrested two youths from Kottayam on charges of smuggling a large quantity of suspected synthetic drugs from Bengaluru.
Anijith Kumar, 24, of Athirampuzha, and Ajmal Shah, 28, of Erattupetta, were arrested by the Angamaly police and the District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force. The accused were residing in Aluva.
The police allegedly seized over 200 grams of suspected MDMA from the car the accused were travelling in. Based on a tip-off received by District Police Chief (Ernakulam Rural) M. Hemalatha, the police attempted to intercept the car as it reached Karayamparambu. The youths, however, reportedly sped away. The police chased the vehicle and arrested them at TB Junction, Angamaly. The suspected contraband was allegedly found concealed inside the car.
Suspected drugs seized from spa
The police had recently seized 24 grams of suspected MDMA and over 600 grams of suspected ganja from a spa in Muttom, Aluva. Two people running the spa were also arrested, the police said. The investigation team included Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) (Narcotic Cell) P.J. Umeshkumar, DySP (Aluva) T.R. Rajesh, Angamaly inspector A. Ramesh, and sub-inspector Pradeep Kumar.
