Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML) has announced that all the necessary technical preparations are in full swing to initiate Old City Metro Rail work on the 7.5 km stretch from MGBS (Imlibun) to Chandrayangutta soon, with the required Right of Way (RoW) almost available.
Managing Director N.V.S. Reddy informed, in a press release on Sunday, that clearing works are being carried out at a rapid pace despite rains, festivals, and processions, to widen the road to 100 ft as per the Master Plan.
Over 550 structures have been demolished and work is on to clear the remaining, with compensation of ₹433 crore disbursed to affected property owners so far. The number of properties to be acquired further was reduced to 886 from the original 1,100, through innovative engineering solutions, he said.
The MD added that with complex electrical cable removal successfully done, preparatory works for Metro pillars and station construction, have also gathered pace.
DGPS surveys
Differential GPS (DGPS) surveys for precision mapping, identification and relocation of underground utilities, soil testing and geo-technical analysis and protection of sensitive heritage structures along the alignment are the focal areas.
DGPS offers high-accuracy digital mapping. The corridor has been divided into segments with control points established for accurate positioning using high-precision Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receivers.
Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) surveys are being conducted to detect subsurface structures and materials to identify and divert underground water, sewage, stormwater, electricity, and telecom lines, said Mr. Reddy.
Pillar locations are being marked based on the refined alignment adjusted for sensitive structures, with milestone markers placed every 100 meters to guide construction. Every effort is being made to realise the long-cherished dream of Metro rail connectivity for the people of Old City.
