In a shocking incident, an M. Tech student, Vinay Kumar, reportedly attacked Prof. S.S.S.V. Gopala Raju, in RGUKT Nuzvid IIIT, when the latter refused to allow the student into the examination hall on Monday (September 8, 2025).

A native of Vizianagaram district, Vinay, was pursuing M. Tech in Civil Engineering in Rajiv University of Knowledge Technologies (RGUKT), IIIT, on Nuzvid campus.

When Vinay came to appear for lab examination, Prof. Gopala Raju asked the student to get No Objection Certificate from the head of the department concerned and the lab in-charge.

However, the accused had an argument with the professor and attacked him with a knife in the examination hall. The professor collapsed in the exam hall and the students alerted the management, who rushed to the spot and shifted Gopala Raju to a hospital.

“As the student has only 25% attendance and is not eligible for examinations, the faculty refused to allow him into the examination hall. Prof. Gopala Raju is undergoing treatment in Nuzvid Area Hospital,” RGUKT Registrar and Nuzvid Campus Director Prof. S. Amarendra Kumar told The Hindu.

“We have cancelled the examination after the incident, and held an emergency meeting with the faculty,” the Registrar said.

Students said Vinay came to the examination with knife in a planned manner and attacked Prof. Gopala Raju, who suffered multiple injuries.

Nuzvid Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) K.V.V.N.V. Prasad said based on the complaint lodged by the institute management, the student was taken into custody.

“Police rushed to IIIT Campus and took Vinay into custody. The student was preparing for second semester examinations. He is being questioned,” the DSP said.
