Nine police stations in the Central zone and one station falling under the Tiruchi City Police limits have been adjudged the best in the year 2023 based on various criteria and parameters.Â
The Central zone consists of Tiruchi, Pudukottai, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Karur, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam and Mayiladuthurai districts. While each district is headed by a Superintendent of Police, the Tiruchi City Police is headed by an officer in the rank of Inspecto-General of Police.
The office of the Director-General of Police / Head of the Police Force, Chennai, announced the list of best police stations zone-wise and cities-wise a few days ago.
The Fort Law and Order police station has been adjudged the best in the jurisdiction of the Tiruchi City Police. The Manachanallur police station in Tiruchi district, Aranthangi In Pudukottai district, Jayamkonadam in Ariyalur district, Perambalur in Perambalur district, Karur Town in Karur district, Thanjavur Town East in Thanjavur district, Velipalayam in Nagapattinam district, Thiruthuraipoondi in Tiruvarur district and Sirkali in Mayiladuthurai district have been adjudged the best.
The selection of the best station in each district was based on certain criteria and their performance on various parameters connected with policing. Police sources said marks were allotted for each parameter for each station and for their performance based on which a detailed tabular report was sent through a proper channel from the respective district / city police authorities to the office of the Director-General of Police / Head of the Police Force following which the best stations were selected.
The sources said every police station was judged on various parameters such as their performance in detention of accused under the Goondas Act; conviction obtained in The SC / ST (Prevention of Atrocities Act) cases;Â execution of warrants; disposal of old cases; detection and recovery of stolen properties in respect of property offence cases; cases booked under the NDPS Act and the quantity of ganja seized; performances in cases relating to crimes against women and road safety, number of community outreach programmes conducted; fair and speedy investigation of cases and the number of chargesheets filed; petitions received from the general public and those which were disposed among others.
The Station House Officer of the police station concerned received a trophy from the Director-General of Police / Head of the Police Force in Chennai recently, the sources added.Â
