Two persons were killed in a road accident near Padappai on Sunday evening.
The police identified the victims as Naveen, 19, of Anna Nagar in Padappai and his friend Abimani, 21, of Sirkazhi. The police said Naveen was riding a motorcycle with Abimani on the pillion. When they were on a flyover, a stray cow wandered on to the road. In a bid to avoid a collision, Naveen swerved the two-wheeler, losing control of it and hitting the animal. In the impact, the duo were thrown on to the opposite lane, where a speeding car ran over them. They were killed on the spot.
Passers-by alerted the authorities. The Traffic Investigation Wing of the Tambaram police sent the bodies for a post-mortem examination. The police registered a case and are investigating.
