Bomb hoax at Tiruvarur Collector’s office

An uneasy calm prevailed at the Tiruvarur District Collectorate on Monday as the police searched the complex for a bomb following an e-mail threat while the weekly grievance meeting was on.

According to the police, on Monday morning, when hundreds of people assembled at the Collectorate to file their grievance petitions at the weekly grievance meeting chaired by Collector V. Mohanachandran, an e-mail from “Ajmal Kasab” landed at the Collector’s official mail inbox.

Immediately, the district police was alerted and a bomb detection squad searched the complex without causing any disturbance to the conduct of the weekly grievance meeting. The threat turned out to be a hoax, the police said.
