The Physiotherapy Department of the new Government General Hospital (GGH) organised various events on the occasion of World Physiotherapy Day, at Siddhartha Medical College on Monday. The events were organised under the stewardship of Head of Department (HoD) Dr. Anupama and in-charge Dr. Kiran.
Sports competitions were held for physiotherapists and quiz contests for physiotherapy internship students, while awareness sessions on advanced physiotherapy methods were conducted by senior physiotherapists.Â
On the occasion, Dr. Anupama said that the State government had declared Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) as minimum qualification for government jobs and shifted physiotherapy from the paramedical category to allied health sciences. She also stressed the importance of continuous updates on the subject.Â
In a programme held at the new GGH, Dr. Kiran emphasised that lifestyle-related health issues, which were affecting both the youth and elderly, could be effectively treated through physiotherapy, and added that the department was constantly updating knowledge on new innovations.Â
GGH Superintendent Dr. A.V. Rao, Neurosurgery HoD Dr. Shyam Babji, Orthopedics HoD Dr. A. Srinivas, Chief Resident Medical Officer Dr. Padmavathi and geriatric physiotherapist Dr. Avani gave valuable insights on physiotherapy.Â
