The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has embarked on a project to isolate commercial establishments possessing residential property tax identification numbers (PTINs), thus evading tax.
In collaboration with the Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company (TGSPDCL), the Revenue wing of the GHMC has started mapping the PTINs with the electricity service connections (USCs).
Being implemented in multiple phases, the project aims to improve revenue generation for GHMC.
During phase I, a total 96,938 residential PTINs have been successfully mapped with non-residential USCs across the six zones of GHMC, using door number match.
Charminar Zone had the maximum such deviations at 26,056, followed by Khairatabad at 22,514. Secunderabad followed next with 22,005, LB Nagar – 9,761, Serilingampally – 9,342 and Kukatpally – 7,260.
During phase II, 22,169 records have been matched through door number and name based matching, a statement from the GHMC informed.
This systematic data integration is expected to strengthen GHMC’s property tax collection, plug revenue leakages, and ensure greater accountability by linking property usage with power connections, the note said.
Addressing a review meeting held on Tuesday, GHMC Additional Commissioner (IT & Revenue) Anuraag Jayanthi said the initiative will play a key role in enhancing the corporation’s revenue base while ensuring data transparency and efficiency.
Mr. Jayanthi also discussed the decentralisation of advertisement permissions in GHMC. He directed officials to invite applications through online mode only, replacing offline applications, to promote transparency and streamline processes.
