Work on the final stretch of the Barapullah Phase-III project is all set to begin with a five-member Supreme Court-appointed committee clearing the Public Works Department’s (PWD) proposal to cut 325 trees obstructing the elevated corridor, an official said on Monday.
The project, for which work is nearly 90% complete, is part of the Barapullah elevated corridor that will connect Mayur Vihar Phase-I to Sarai Kale Khan. Once completed, the 3.5-km-long flyover is expected to improve connectivity between east, south, and central Delhi and help decongest Nizamuddin Bridge, Bhairon Marg, and Ring Road.
‘Work to be expedited’
PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh said, “Our target is to complete the construction work by the end of this year. The work will be expedited now.”
The work on it began in April 2015 and was expected to be completed by October 2017. However, the project missed several deadlines due to land acquisition issues and subsequently due to the pandemic-induced restrictions, a senior official said.
