The glass bridge connecting Vivekananda Rock Memorial and Thiruvalluvar Statue in the sea in Kanniyakumari is stable and the crack developed in the glass bridge will be repaired in two days, according to a press release from the district administration.

The release said when the contractor’s team was carrying out painting work on the upper part of the bridge on August 16, a hammer unexpectedly fell from the hand of a worker from a height of seven metres, leaving a thin scratch on the first layer of the glass.

Following this development, steps were taken by the contractor to get a new glass from the manufacturing company, Saint Gobain. The glass reached Kanniyakumari on September 1.

Subsequently, steps were being taken to establish generators for the installation of the new glass. The work would be completed in the next two days. Meanwhile, tourists had been allowed to visit and explore the glass bridge as usual, the release added.
