Members of Irula community, including women and children from over five villages in Shoolagiri, petitioned the District administration and stated a sit-in protest demanding individual forest rights and house pattas under the Forest Rights Act (FRA) at the Collectorate in Krishnagiri on Monday (September 8, 2025).

The residents of Ramandotty, Kumbalam, Sigarapalli, Nayakkanerimalai, and Pambukaran kottai have been residing on forest adjunct lands for over 75 years. According to the protesters, since May 2023, the stakeholders had applied for forest rights under the FRA through the Gram Sabhas. The zonal level meeting was held at the Sub Collector’s office and Tahsildar’s office and under the FRA, individual forest rights for house pattas was considered and recommended.

According to the protesters, it was alleged that even after nine months, the stakeholders have no idea on the status of the submitted petitions.
