Organisations rise and organisations fail because of one factor, and that is leadership, said Captain Yashika H Tyagi (retd), Kargil war veteran and military-inspired leadership coach, at an event organised by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry’s Ladies Organisation (FICCI FLO) Chennai, on Tuesday.

Capt Tyagi spoke about the spirit of entrepreneurship, what can make people better leaders in their respective domains, and the importance of decision making skills, drawing from her observations and experiences as a veteran. “One thing that differentiates a good leader from a bad leader is the problem solving abilities. Especially as women, there are many times when the world already has a set idea about us, whether we can take difficult decisions, and so on,” she said.

She also spoke about how generations of conditioning around “what will people think” can impact a person’s decision making and problem solving abilities, making one a hesitant leader. “Taking a decision is better than taking no decision. As women, we should shed our inhibitions and the barriers created by self-doubt,” she said.

Chairperson of FLO Chennai Niyati A. Mehta and committee members were present.
