Thulukanathamman Koil Street in Pallikaranai is a main thoroughfare connecting hundreds of interior streets. The road, which branches off from the arterial Velachery Main Road, also houses the local office of the Chennai Corporation. However, vehicles are parked every day in the public space directly opposite the Pallikaranai Corporation Office, causing severe inconvenience to motorists and pedestrians. Despite complaints made to the Tambaram Police Commissioner’s office, no action has been taken to clear the unauthorised parking of vans and autorickshaws, which narrows the road and leads to traffic snarls.

Based on complaints from local residents last week, traffic police officials from Pallikaranai took action to remove the parked vehicles. However, the problem has recurred, with vehicles once again being parked in the area. During the night, anti-social elements are reportedly using the parked vehicles as temporary spots to consume alcohol.

We request the Tambaram Police Commissioner to take necessary action to prevent such unauthorised parking and ensure public safety.

Tambaram Police Commissioner’s office responds

Vehicle owners who park in the area have already been issued stern warnings that, going forward, their vehicles will be impounded daily and penalties will be levied. Additionally, temporary barricades will be installed opposite the Corporation office to prevent unauthorised parking.

GST Road in Perungalathur in bad shape

GST Road in Perungalathur and Irumbuliyur is in poor condition, with several potholes. Gandhi Road also causes severe inconvenience to motorists. While the traffic police occasionally carry out temporary repairs, this arterial highway should be repaved urgently. Permanent repairs would also help ease traffic congestion in the area.
